This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale construction and renovation projects across various sectors, providing technical leadership, coordinating with clients and teams, and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
Independently execute all Mechanical disciplines, with assistance on Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
Oversee, mentor, and provide technical leadership to design staff and engineering team.
Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Review and approve shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Participate in project meetings, including owner, architect, and construction administration meetings, focusing on project budget and coordination.
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve design and project efficiency.
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or HVAC design.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Ability to engage effectively with clients.
Fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude, including some ambiguity in work.
Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience in performing and directing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience in reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience in conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Experience in participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Experience in responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders during the preparation of construction documents.
Experience in attending and participating in construction meetings, including site walk-throughs.
Experience in interface effectively with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budgets.
Experience in overseeing, guiding, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
Experience in conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Experience in participating in or serving on internal and/or professional committees.
Ability to specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Ability to review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Must be able to perform work with some ambiguity and high degree of latitude.
Must be able to handle multiple projects effectively.
