This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale construction and renovation projects across various sectors, providing technical leadership, client engagement, and project management within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings
Perform Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
Participate in or lead value engineering sessions to improve design and project efficiency
Mentor and provide technical leadership to design team members
Respond to RFIs and review change orders during construction
Attend and contribute to project meetings with clients, architects, and contractors
Coordinate with project team to ensure adherence to project budget and schedule
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or HVAC design.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Ability to engage effectively with clients.
Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience performing and directing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Experience in overseeing, guiding, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience reviewing and responding to RFIs and change orders during the preparation of construction documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
Experience attending and participating in construction meetings.
Experience representing the company in project activities, directing project team activities, and participating in business development and marketing activities.
Ability to participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Ability to conduct staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Physical ability to perform site visits that may require a physical walk-through of the site.
