Job Description

This position involves designing and managing plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for various construction projects, including drafting, equipment specification, site visits, and project coordination under the supervision of licensed engineers within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify ductwork, piping, and equipment for plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Assist with HVAC system design as needed.
  • Supervise or manage projects within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring progress and budgets.
  • Create Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Attend and participate in construction meetings and coordinate work activities with project team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
  • Current CPD, PE in Mechanical or FPE in the United States preferred.
  • Experience in designing and directing the design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems independently on assigned projects.
  • Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases.
  • Experience in editing specifications relating to existing or new projects.
  • Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Experience in reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Experience in conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Experience in attending and participating in construction meetings, including site walk-throughs.
  • Experience in coordinating work activities on specific projects with several persons with various levels of capability.
  • Experience in responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and members of the project team, with an understanding and focus on the project budget.
  • Experience in performing or assisting with HVAC designs as necessary.
  • Experience in project management or supervising within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring project progress and budget.
  • Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
