Job Description
This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, including calculations, drawings, equipment specification, and site visits, within a multidisciplinary engineering team. The role requires independent work on smaller projects, collaboration with clients and team members, and leadership in staff development and project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects.
- Prepare calculations and production drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and site visits.
- Conduct field site visits during construction to monitor project progress and compliance.
- Research and respond to emergent technical issues as needed.
- Participate or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team.
- Mentor and direct activities of less experienced staff.
Requirements
- Current PE license in Mechanical or FPE license in the United States required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
- Experience in designing piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design.
- Ability to perform designs independently for smaller, less technical projects requiring supervision of a senior engineer for complex projects.
- Ability to prepare calculations using correct parameters with supervisory review.
- Ability to prepare production drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic to construction design phases.
- Ability to edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Ability to specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
- Willingness to research as needed and respond to emergent issues independently.
- Ability to participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Ability to conduct staff development activities, including mentoring and training presentations.
- Experience in directing activities of staff with less experience.
- Willingness to conduct field site visits during the construction phase, including physically walking through the site independently.
- Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
