A mechanical engineer responsible for designing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for various construction projects, managing project details from schematic design to construction administration, and collaborating with clients and project teams in a remote work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design and specify HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection.
Perform calculations for heating and cooling loads and develop layouts using energy modeling software.
Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
Participate in construction meetings and coordinate work activities with project team members.
Requirements
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States preferred.
Experience in designing HVAC systems including performing and directing design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection independently on assigned projects.
Experience in complex projects under supervision of a professional engineer.
Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience in calculating heating and cooling loads, and designing ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience in reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience in interface effectively with clients and project team members, attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
Experience in responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience in conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
Experience in coordinating work activities on specific projects with multiple persons at various capability levels.
Experience in participating in business development and marketing activities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
