Job Description
This position involves supporting the design and modeling of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for building projects under the supervision of a licensed engineer, including preparing calculations, drawings, and reviewing submittals, primarily within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform designs of uncomplicated piping and equipment selection for HVAC systems under supervision of a professional engineer
- Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection system designs as needed
- Prepare Building Load Calculations and energy models using modeling software under supervisory oversight
- Create Revit BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Review submittals and shop drawings for compliance with contract documents
- Research assigned topics and respond to emergent issues
- Draft reports for review by a professional engineer
- Gather information and review change orders during the preparation of construction documents
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience required.
- Experience in designing HVAC systems, including performing designs of uncomplicated piping and equipment selection for HVAC systems for building design, under supervision of a professional engineer.
- Experience in preparing Building Load Calculations using modeling software under supervisory direction.
- Experience in preparing energy models using appropriate software with supervisory oversight.
- Experience in Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings, with supervisory oversight.
- Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Experience in reviewing submittals and shop drawings for compliance with contract documents.
- Experience in researching assigned issues and responding to emergent issues.
- Experience in writing draft reports to be reviewed by a professional engineer.
- Experience in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Experience performing job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of site.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
