Job Description
This position involves designing electrical systems for building construction projects, including lighting, power distribution, and communication systems, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction drawings and specifications for electrical systems in building projects.
- Design lighting, power distribution, communication, and telecommunication systems for various clients.
- Analyze engineering documents and layout electrical systems components.
- Research and resolve design issues related to electrical systems.
- Participate in value engineering sessions with architectural and engineering teams.
- Apply electrical codes to building power distribution and circuiting designs.
- Review and markup shop drawings and submittals.
- Gather information for RFIs and review change orders during construction document preparation.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit, required.
- Ability to perform basic to moderately complex construction drawings and specifications of electrical engineering systems for building construction.
- Ability to design lighting, power distribution, communications, and telecommunication systems for healthcare, education, higher education, and commercial clients, including fire alarm systems, under limited supervision.
- Knowledge of electrical code for the application of building power distribution design and circuiting.
- Ability to analyze engineering documents and layout systems regarding components and parts.
- Ability to research and respond to design issues.
- Ability to participate in value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Ability to assist in review and markup of shop drawings and submittals.
- Ability to assist in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred: Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Preferred: EIT or FE certification.
- Preferred: LEED accreditation.
