Job Description

The role involves collaborating with healthcare and design teams to develop strategic master plans and operational workflows for clinical laboratory facilities, ensuring efficient space utilization, equipment placement, and process optimization within healthcare environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with architects, clinicians, strategists, and designers to develop healthcare facility designs that align with client visions.
  • Conduct clinical lab process analysis across medical campuses to optimize workflows and space adjacencies.
  • Guide discussions on medical equipment and technology needs for healthcare facilities.
  • Support the creation of strategic campus and departmental master plans and operational workflows.
  • Develop clinical service plans and space programs to inform master planning and facility design.
  • Estimate program and resource requirements for clinical laboratories and related spaces.
  • Coordinate contracted deliverables to ensure alignment with project schedules.
  • Communicate healthcare planning concepts and findings to clients and project teams through reports and presentations.
  • Develop space programs, workflows, and strategic plans under project leadership.
  • Stay current with industry trends, evidence-based design, and healthcare planning tools.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or other applicable field is required.
  • Experience working within the healthcare-built environment for at least 5 years is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of working knowledge of Clinical Laboratory operations experience is required.
  • Foundational knowledge of Clinical Laboratory equipment, regulatory requirements, and analytical methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical workflows, healthcare delivery systems, current trends, and national and regional benchmarks is required.
  • Experience demonstrating proficiency in clinical lab processes across medical campuses, including major inpatient and outpatient departments.
  • Ability to work with clients and end users to outline optimized process flows and critical adjacencies of clinical spaces.
  • Ability to understand and guide discussions on medical equipment and technology needs.
  • Experience supporting healthcare planning processes with clients and the design team to create strategic campus master plans and departmental level master plans.
  • Experience supporting healthcare planning processes in collaboration with the design team to create operational workflows and functional space programs, along with department floor plan concepts reflective of operations.
  • Experience creating baseline and future clinical service plans that illustrate program design concepts to inform Master Programming and Master Planning in line with future facility goals.
  • Ability to contribute to estimating overarching program and service resource requirements such as core clinical laboratory specimen processing capacity, microbiology and hematology bench space, anatomic pathology grossing and histology stations, point-of-care testing bays, equipment allocations for analyzers and automation lines, and circulation pathways by applying best practices and utilization benchmarks.
  • Experience supporting coordination of contracted deliverables to align with the overall project delivery schedule.
  • Ability to communicate healthcare expertise and planning concepts to clients and project teams both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
  • Experience developing space programs, workflows, and strategic plans under the guidance of a Project Lead.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite, Visio, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Significant travel required.
  • Must complete mandatory training, including compliance training, within required timeframes and adhere to internal policies and the Code of Conduct.
