Job Description
A Structural Staff Engineer leads evaluations, analysis, and design of industrial structures, focusing on structural assessments, rehabilitation planning, and technical support, while working in field environments and collaborating with clients and teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field evaluation of existing structures
- Develop calculations and analytical models for steel, concrete, and other materials
- Design structural rehabilitation and replacement plans
- Specify materials and develop technical reports
- Provide technical support for structural construction
- Interface with clients for proposals and estimates
- Lead root cause failure analysis of structural defects
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Structural Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering
- P.E. licensure is required
- S.E. licensure in Illinois is preferred
- Extensive knowledge of STAAD, SAP, AISC, and AWS required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under licensed S.E.s to progress towards professional licensure
- Ability to lead field evaluations of existing structures
- Ability to develop calculations and analytical models in steel, concrete, and other materials
- Ability to lead the design of structural rehabilitation and/or replacement plans
- Ability to specify materials and lead the development of reports
- Ability to provide technical support for structural construction
- Ability to interface with clients, develop proposals, and estimates
- Must meet all client-specific site requirements prior to deployment on any field assignment
- Must possess physical mobility on the ground and at heights
- Must be able to pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms and scaffolding using appropriate fall protection
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind while wearing appropriate PPE
- Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces
- May be required to adhere to a client’s random drug testing program prior to entering their site
- May be required to meet a client’s facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site
