Job Description

A Staff Structural Engineer leads evaluations and analysis of industrial structures, develops rehabilitation and replacement plans, and provides technical support for construction projects, requiring expertise in structural modeling, calculations, and client interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field evaluation of existing structures
  • Develop calculations and analytical models for steel, concrete, and other materials
  • Design structural rehabilitation and replacement plans
  • Specify materials and develop reports
  • Provide technical support for structural construction
  • Interface with clients, develop proposals, and prepare estimates
  • Lead root cause failure analysis of structural defects

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering
  • P.E. licensure is required
  • S.E. licensure in Illinois is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of STAAD, SAP, AISC, and AWS required
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead field evaluation of existing structures
  • Ability to develop calculations and analytical models in steel, concrete, and other materials
  • Ability to lead the design of structural rehabilitation and/or replacement plans
  • Ability to specify materials and develop reports related to structural evaluations
  • Ability to provide technical support for structural construction
  • Ability to interface with clients, develop proposals, and estimates
  • Must meet all client-specific site requirements prior to deployment on field assignments
  • Physical mobility on the ground and at heights
  • Ability to pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms or scaffolding using appropriate fall protection
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind while wearing PPE
  • Ability to position oneself to work in confined spaces
  • Must adhere to a client’s random drug testing program prior to entering their site
  • Must meet a client’s facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site
