The Senior Manager, HRIS, Benefits and Total Rewards is responsible for overseeing payroll, benefits, HR systems, and compensation strategies to ensure compliance, equity, and efficiency, while serving as a trusted advisor and driving continuous improvement in HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee full-cycle payroll processing for U.S. staff, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and coordinating with payroll providers.
Design, select, and administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement, and wellness initiatives.
Lead the administration of leave programs, including FMLA, and advise on leave laws and employee entitlements.
Serve as the HRIS lead, maintaining system configurations, managing integrations, and developing HR metrics reports and dashboards.
Implement and manage a comprehensive compensation strategy, including salary structures, market benchmarking, and salary reviews.
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to HR, payroll, and benefits, and manage related reporting and audits.
Identify process improvements, automation opportunities, and cost-saving measures within HR operations.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
8-10 years of progressive HR operations, total rewards experience, including managing payroll, benefits, HRIS, and compensation functions.
Proven experience managing payroll processing for U.S. staff and coordinating with PEO payroll providers, ensuring compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local payroll laws, taxes, deductions, overtime, benefits withholdings, garnishments, and advising on compliance for field staff under varying jurisdictions.
Experience handling payroll reconciliations, audits, corrections, and payroll system configurations.
Experience designing, selecting, and administering employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, retirement, life disability insurance, leave, and wellness initiatives.
Experience managing the annual open enrollment process, benefit changes onboarding, life events, offboarding, communicating benefits plans, leading training sessions, vendor coordination, reviewing and finalizing enrollments, and transmitting data to third parties.
Experience partnering with brokers, vendors, and third-party administrators to manage benefits contracts, renewals, vendor selection, negotiations, and cost management.
Experience supporting FMLA leave administration, including communication with employees and compliance with federal and state regulations such as ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and FMLA.
Ability to advise managers and employees on leave laws, paid time off, workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
Experience maintaining benefits data, working with senior leadership and benefits brokers to ensure programs are competitive and effective in attracting and retaining employees.
Serve as HRIS lead, maintaining system configurations, managing integrations with payroll, benefits, finance, and timekeeping systems, ensuring data security and access controls.
Developing reports and dashboards for HR metrics analytics such as turnover, compensation, payroll costs, and benefit utilization, both scheduled and ad-hoc.
Leading or supporting HRIS system upgrades, expansions, user training, and documentation of workflows and policies.
Implementing a comprehensive compensation strategy including salary structure, job classifications, market benchmarking, and leading annual compensation reviews and salary planning processes.
Ensuring internal pay equity and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, providing market analysis and supporting organizational changes related to compensation.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements and industry trends related to HR, benefits, payroll, and total rewards.
Ensuring accurate and timely reporting for compliance, audits, and organizational needs.
Monitoring and analyzing data to assess the impact and effectiveness of HR programs.
Maintaining and enforcing HR policies related to compensation, benefits, and payroll, ensuring alignment with local, national, and international laws.
Identifying process improvements, automation opportunities, and cost savings within HR operations.

Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels and from various backgrounds.
Proficiency in HRIS payroll systems and compensation software.

Physical ability to sit for prolonged periods working at a desk and on a computer; may require extended hours and limited domestic or international travel.
Legal eligibility to work in the United States in Washington, D.C.
Benefits & Perks
Salary range of $175,000 - $220,000
Work environment based in Washington, D.C., with potential limited domestic and international travel
