The Program Manager, Species at the Bezos Earth Fund is responsible for leading and coordinating a global species recovery initiative, overseeing project investments, monitoring progress, and building partnerships to achieve measurable conservation outcomes for highly threatened species.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day operations of the flagship species recovery initiative, including sourcing, reviewing, and monitoring project investments.
Oversee implementation progress, timelines, budgets, risks, milestones, and performance across multiple projects and regions.
Coordinate monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of biological and programmatic results, including partner reports and technical updates.
Support the Steering Committee by convening meetings, preparing agendas, documenting decisions, and tracking action items.
Monitor and synthesize progress across the species portfolio and related conservation activities, maintaining clarity on recovery goals and biological impacts.
Lead internal and external communications, including updates, dashboards, briefings, and supporting strategic positioning of conservation progress.
Build and maintain relationships with implementing organizations, scientific advisors, stakeholders, and develop alliances for species recovery.
Identify and promote the use of new technologies (e.g., genomics, bioacoustics, AI) to accelerate species recovery efforts.
Support the development and refinement of long-term species conservation strategies, identifying high-impact opportunities.
Coordinate with organizational teams to ensure operational excellence and alignment with broader organizational priorities.
Requirements
An advanced degree or equivalent experience in conservation biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field is required.
At least 7 years of professional experience specifically related to species conservation, recovery planning, and translating science into operational conservation strategies.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing recovery strategies for highly threatened or endangered species, with measurable biological outcomes such as population stabilization, growth, or threat reduction.
Experience across multiple taxonomic groups is highly valued.
Strong understanding of species recovery frameworks, including IUCN Red List assessments, formal recovery plans, and threat mitigation strategies.
Experience managing complex, multi-partner species conservation initiatives or portfolios, including multi-stakeholder governance bodies such as steering committees.
Experience building or managing coalitions for conservation including resources mobilization towards common goals.
Experience working with governments, local science and conservation organizations, and local communities in high biodiversity areas around the world.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized with strong project management, follow-through, and attention to detail.
Effective team player with the ability to collaborate across diverse cultures, geographies, and time zones.
Self-motivated and dependable, with the ability to work independently under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Fluency in English is required; working proficiency in an additional language such as Spanish, Portuguese, or French is strongly preferred.
This position is based in Washington, D.C.
Requires some domestic and/or international travel.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
May require extended hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines.
