Job Description
The VP of Tech Foundations at Aurora is responsible for overseeing the company's core technology infrastructure, including cloud-based AI systems, data platforms, and developer pipelines, to support the development and deployment of self-driving technology. The role involves leading cross-functional teams, driving technical excellence, and shaping strategic technical initiatives to enable safe, efficient, and scalable autonomous mobility solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the core technology infrastructure, including platforms, tooling, and data systems used in Aurora Driver development.
- Partner with engineering teams to shape the strategic technical vision and deliver the infrastructure roadmap.
- Build and manage a modern cloud-based AI infrastructure to optimize development pipelines and reduce operational costs.
- Drive technical excellence by implementing best practices in software development, architecture, and system reliability.
- Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with various departments to ensure infrastructure supports product innovation and operational excellence.
- Attract, hire, and develop engineering and operations talent specializing in DevOps, DataOps, MLOps, and cloud SRE.
Requirements
- Engineering Leadership experience at a company operating at scale that is dealing with mission critical systems, with safety critical experience considered a bonus.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and align senior leaders and stakeholders across the company as well as external partners.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to make strategic decisions that balance technical trade-offs with business needs.
- Exceptional strategic thinking with the ability to align technical solutions with organizational goals.
- Demonstrated success in building and leading teams responsible for large-scale infrastructure and/or developer data platforms.
- Demonstrated experience recruiting, building, structuring, and scaling technical organizations, including performance management.
- Proven track record of delivering significant performance and efficiency improvements in large-scale systems.
- Experience in Distributed Systems, Data Infrastructure, ML Frameworks Platforms, and Cloud native technologies such as Kubernetes and AWS.
- Demonstrated experience in building and managing highly-available cloud services and infrastructure for business continuity and mission critical services.

Base salary range of 350,000 - 400,000
