Job Description
The Aurora Driver is responsible for safely operating autonomous semi-trucks during testing and commercial operations, providing real-time feedback to engineers, and supporting the development of self-driving technology in a dynamic trucking environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely pilot autonomous semi trucks during on-road and closed course testing
- Monitor Aurora Driver and platform performance in real-time during testing
- Log feedback on autonomy and platform performance for engineering analysis
- Escalate operational issues with suggested solutions
- Maintain knowledge of self-driving technology, software, and operational changes
- Work on cross-functional projects to demonstrate positive impact
- Interact with the public as an Aurora ambassador
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience driving trucks commercially
- Valid U.S. Driver's License
- Interstate Class-A Commercial Driver's License
- Driving record must pass Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) guidelines
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must pass pre-employment, post-incident, and randomized drug testing in accordance with FMCSA requirements
- Must pass DOT physical and meet all DOT qualifications
- Ability to work available shifts including day, night, and weekends, with rotating shifts as needed
- Ability to work regular overtime and some weekends
- Available to travel as needed up to 50%
- Must spend up to 80% of shift time in the vehicle
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to prioritize and make strategic decisions proactively
- Must demonstrate a commitment to safety and adhere to safety policies
- Ability to remain alert and attentive while monitoring the Aurora Driver during extended stretches of autonomy
- Ability to log real-time feedback regarding autonomy and platform performance during testing
- Ability to escalate operational blockers with suggested solutions
- Ability to work on cross-functional projects as time permits
- Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of how self-driving technology works, including understanding daily software and operational changes
