Job Description
The Aurora Driver role involves safely operating autonomous semi-trucks for testing and development purposes, providing real-time feedback to engineers, and collaborating across teams to advance self-driving technology in a dynamic, safety-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely pilot and co-pilot autonomous semi trucks and other autonomous vehicles during testing and operations
- Monitor the Aurora Driver and provide real-time feedback on platform performance
- Escalate operational issues with suggested solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support Aurora's mission
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of self-driving technology and operational changes
- Work towards achieving quantitative and qualitative goals impacting vehicle operations
- Interact with the public as an ambassador for Aurora
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience driving trucks commercially
- Valid U.S. Driver's License
- Interstate Class-A Commercial Driver's License
- Driving record must pass Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) guidelines
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to pass pre-employment, post-incident, and randomized drug testing in accordance with FMCSA requirements
- Must pass DOT physical and meet all DOT qualifications
- Ability to travel at least 2 weeks per month
- Ability to work night shifts, second and/or third shift, and rotating shifts as needed
- Ability to work regular overtime and some weekends
- Must spend up to 80% of shift time in the vehicle
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to prioritize and make strategic decisions proactively
- Must demonstrate a commitment to safety and adhere to safety policies
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with teams throughout Aurora
- Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of self-driving technology, including daily software and operational changes
- Physical ability to pilot and copilot autonomous semi trucks and other autonomous vehicles for on-road and closed course testing
