Job Description
The Staff Power Architect at Aurora is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating electrical power systems for autonomous vehicle hardware, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-performance, reliable, and manufacturable electronics tailored for self-driving applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and define hardware power architecture for Aurora's custom electronics
- Model, integrate, test, and debug power electronic circuits on bench and in systems
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to gather requirements and ensure performance and product metrics are met
- Support the development of test infrastructure and validate electrical designs for manufacturing
- Analyze systems for power, signal integrity, EMI/EMC constraints, and high-speed signaling
- Manage PCB layout and leverage CAD tools for system, board, and chip-level implementation
- Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting using lab instruments such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree with a focus in electrical or computer engineering.
- At least 6 years of experience in industry developing complex electrical hardware.
- Expertise in power architecture, signal and power integrity design and analysis, high speed signaling, grounding, and analog electronics.
- High proficiency and ability to analyze systems for balancing electro-mechanical and EMI EMC constraints.
- Extensive experience with hardware productization at the system, board, and chip level implementation.
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals supported by the use of CAD tools to manage PCB layout and leverage Power Signal simulation and emulation input.
- Experience in architecting, integrating, testing, and debugging power electronic circuits on the bench and in systems using software tools and advanced test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, power supplies, and E-loads.
- Ability to partner with electrical, mechanical, operations, and validation teams to mature high-quality electrical designs to manufacturing, including supporting test infrastructure development to meet product coverage and yield targets.
- Knowledge of system power converter modeling and simulation, electromagnetic modeling, analysis fundamentals, and simulation tools.
- Hands-on testing and troubleshooting skills in a lab environment.
- Experience with hardware productization, system, board, and chip level implementation.
- Ability to define build tests and launch products based on extensive prior experience.
