Key Responsibilities
- Design and validate opto-mechanical enclosures for automotive sensors to meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost requirements
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers to initiate mass production tooling and oversee engineering builds for high-volume manufacturing
- Perform engineering analysis and testing of opto-mechanical sensor performance, documenting and presenting findings
- Prototype and validate next-generation automotive sensors through hands-on testing
- Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and engineering BOMs using CAD tools like CATIA
- Conduct basic structural thermal analysis using hand calculations and FEA tools
- Evaluate and characterize optical elements and mounts
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards in specifications
- Manage relationships with suppliers and support production ramp-up
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 7 years of industry experience in Opto-Mechanical Design.
- Strong background in mechanical engineering, optics, mounting of optical components, and packaging.
- Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools, ideally CATIA.
- Experience with optical analysis, including sequential and non-sequential analysis, using Zemax or equivalent tool.
- Experience working directly with and managing relationships with suppliers, ideally automotive OEMs and/or Asia-based Contract Manufacturers.
- Proven strong analytical and hands-on engineering skills.
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions in accordance with ASME 14.5-2009.
- Ability to work in a hands-on prototyping and test environment.
- Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
