Job Description

The Senior Staff Systems Engineer, LiDAR at Aurora is responsible for evaluating and tuning LiDAR sensor devices, analyzing system performance, collaborating across engineering teams, and managing external vendors to develop advanced LiDAR systems for autonomous vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, characterize, and tune Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) devices
  • Perform system-level and sub-component tradeoff analysis
  • Analyze system performance issues through collaboration with hardware and software teams
  • Define validation procedures for new components and product variants
  • Interface with and manage external vendors and contractors for LiDAR components and modules
  • Prepare and present technical reports for management

Requirements

  • Evaluate, characterize and tune Single-Photon Avalanche Diode SPAD devices.
  • Perform system-level and sub-component tradeoff analysis.
  • Analyze system-level issues through collaboration with hardware and software teams to understand factors affecting the system performance in real-world scenarios.
  • Define validation procedures for new component and product variants.
  • Interface and manage the technical direction of external vendors and contractors for LiDAR components and modules.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for management.
  • Partner with multiple functions including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Validation Verification, Reliability, Product Integration, Manufacturing, Hardware Safety Engineering, Program Managers, and Global Supply Management.
  • Possess a Master’s degree in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or equivalent experience.
  • Have familiarity with the theory and operation of Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes.
  • Have at least 4 years of industry experience in sensor systems.
  • Be able to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Have prior experience with complex, multi-domain systems.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities to drive and manage requirements end to end.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have experience working with contract manufacturers.
  • Be in-office and based at the Mountain View, CA office, with a willingness to work 3 days per week in-office (5 days encouraged).
  • Be able to travel domestically up to 15% of the time, including occasional international travel.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $178,000 - $285,000 per year
