Job Description
The Machine Learning Engineer - Models and Validation at Aurora is responsible for developing and evaluating machine learning models used in autonomous vehicle motion planning, creating realistic simulation scenarios, and supporting the ML development workflow to enhance self-driving technology safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and evaluate learned models for the Motion Planner in large-scale simulations
- Develop generative models to augment simulation data and create realistic scenarios
- Support ML model development workflows, including dataset management, label quality, and feature processing
- Collaborate with Behavior Planning and Safety Engineering teams to understand requirements and inform technical approaches
- Work with Behavior Simulation and Perception Simulation teams to deploy models
- Create tools for visualizing, introspecting, and extracting insights from models
- Participate in code reviews and contribute ideas within a collaborative environment
Requirements
- Build learned models used to develop and evaluate the Motion Planner in large scale simulations on complex scenarios.
- Build novel generative models to augment simulation data and create unseen realistic and plausible scenarios for training and evaluating the Motion Planner and other sub-systems.
- Support the various parts of the ML model development workflow, including dataset management, label quality, feature processing pipelines, model training, and evaluation infrastructure.
- Work closely with Behavior Planning and Safety Engineering teams to understand their requirements and inform the technical approach.
- Work with the Behavior Simulation and Perception Simulation teams to add necessary core functionality required to deploy models.
- Develop tools to visualize, introspect, and extract insights from running models.
- Support team members with code reviews and ideas as part of a collaborative environment.
- Motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, navigating problem ambiguity.
- Strong knowledge of ML fundamentals.
- ML model building experience including data preparation, training, model design, and evaluation.
- Robotics-related domain knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of PyTorch, Python, numpy, and common data science libraries.
- At least 2 years of industry experience in a related field.
