Job Description
A Senior Backend Software Engineer at Aurora is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and tools that support autonomous vehicle fleet management, ensuring scalable, reliable, and real-time operations to enable safe and efficient autonomous mobility solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services to support autonomous vehicle fleet management and terminal operations.
- Build and maintain cloud-based solutions in AWS for monitoring and managing fleet location and activity.
- Implement new features and enhance existing products, including full-stack and onboard systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, infrastructure, security, and product teams to achieve operational goals.
- Establish scalable, reliable, and high-availability infrastructure and technology solutions.
- Integrate real-time vehicle data and ensure safe operation of the autonomous fleet.
- Contribute to team culture through mentorship, feedback, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5 or more years of industry experience in software engineering.
- Experience designing complex systems from the ground up, working closely with software, hardware, and infrastructure engineering teams along with other stakeholder teams within Aurora.
- Strong backend service engineering skills using modern technologies including Golang, Python, C, gRPC, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- Experience working with databases and caches such as Postgres and Redis.
- Experience building backend services running in cloud environments, specifically AWS.
- Ability to establish technology and infrastructure to scale products with high availability and reliability.
- Experience contributing to and evolving team culture around mentorship, feedback, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing effective technical specifications, providing feedback, translating technical concepts into lay terms, and incorporating feedback.
- A self-starter mentality to thrive in a growing environment, with the ability to identify needs and proactively address them.
- Motivation to own the product lifecycle end to end, including engaging with product and design teams and internal customers to understand needs and ensure successful product development, release, and post-release support.
