Job Description
A Piping Designer at Atwell, LLC is responsible for developing and executing piping system designs for energy projects, including oil, natural gas, CO2, hydrogen, and RNG pipelines, utilizing 3D CAD software, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project quality, compliance, and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute piping design efforts from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Generate 3D equipment models and piping systems, including detailed isometric drawings.
- Develop construction drawings and plan sets using CADWorx, Plant3D, and Inventor software.
- Prepare detailed design documents such as P&IDs, piping layouts, piping sections, isometrics, and bills of materials.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to optimize CAD workflows and troubleshoot design software issues.
- Perform quality control reviews and redlines of construction documents to ensure adherence to standards.
- Interpret engineering data to create accurate design drawings, reports, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate piping design activities with other disciplines to ensure project alignment.
- Participate in internal design reviews and client-facing design discussions.
- Verify piping drawings both in-office and in the field to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Requirements
- Five (5) to Fifteen (15) years of relevant industry experience in piping design or related fields
- An associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent education in a related field or a comparable combination of training and experience
- Proficiency in 3D piping design software such as AutoCAD, CADWorx, MicroStation, and/or Inventor, capable of working across multiple 3D CAD platforms
- Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines and fast-paced project demands
- Experience with developing construction drawings and plan sets using computer-aided design software, primarily CADWorx
- Support project execution by preparing detailed design documents such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), piping layouts, piping sections, isometric drawings, and bills of materials
- Ability to interpret and organize engineering data to create clear and accurate design drawings, reports, and technical documentation
- Experience with piping drawing verification both in-office and in the field is considered a strong asset
- Ability to produce multidiscipline drawings supporting process, mechanical, piping, and electrical scopes, while taking direction from engineering leads and discipline-specific teams
- Capability to collaborate with engineers and fellow designers to develop construction drawings and plan sets
- Experience supporting project execution through detailed design documentation and quality control reviews, ensuring adherence to project and company CAD standards
- Ability to coordinate piping design activities with other disciplines to ensure alignment across all project components
- Experience participating in internal design reviews and client-facing design presentations and discussions
