Job Description
An Electrical Designer, Substation supports the design and development of substation projects, including physical layout and protection controls, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to produce detailed drawings and schematics for utility, renewable, and power delivery systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop substation physical and protection controls drawing packages
- Prepare and revise general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, grounding plans, and wiring diagrams
- Develop P C design deliverables including one-lines, three-lines, schematics, relay wiring, and cable schedules
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other design staff to ensure accurate and complete deliverables
- Support project execution from conceptual design through detailed design and construction packages
- Review and incorporate design changes based on reviews, client comments, and field conditions
- Maintain drawing quality, design consistency, and adherence to codes and standards
- Assist in supporting construction and field activities, including drawing updates and as-builts
Requirements
- Associate's degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on design experience in electrical drafting design
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in substation design, with exposure to both Physical and Protection Controls design work preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required; experience with MicroStation is a plus
- Experience preparing substation design packages including layouts, sections, grounding, conduit, cable routing, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel details
- Understanding of substation equipment and design elements such as transformers, breakers, switches, bus arrangements, relay panels, control houses, and cable systems
- Familiarity with utility, renewable interconnection, and high-voltage substation projects is preferred
- Ability to support both physical layout design and Protection Controls drafting detailing across multiple project phases
