Job Description
The Project Engineer Electrical supports energy-sector pipeline projects by leading electrical and instrumentation engineering from concept to commissioning, coordinating teams, ensuring compliance, and managing project deliverables within scope, schedule, and budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical and instrumentation engineering from concept through commissioning for pipeline and facility projects.
- Coordinate multi-discipline teams and ensure safe, compliant, and constructible designs.
- Develop and own electrical basis-of-design, one-lines, load lists, grounding, lightning, conduit schedules, interlocks, and I/O lists.
- Produce and review equipment specifications, data sheets, and perform calibration studies and short circuit analyses.
- Manage external engineering partners and discipline interfaces to ensure deliverables meet project standards.
- Support procurement, vendor bid evaluations, technical clarifications, and construction commissioning activities.
- Track project progress, report performance, and coordinate with various project groups to maintain scope, schedule, and budget.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain promptly per state requirements
- At least 6 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, preferably supporting pipeline and facility projects such as mainline block valve sites, M R stations, compressor stations, and terminals
- Experience acting as the primary electrical engineering point of contact for pipeline and facility projects
- Ability to develop and own electrical basis-of-design, one-lines, three-lines, load lists, area classification, grounding, lightning, cable conduit schedules, raceway plans, interlocks, and I/O lists
- Experience coordinating P&IDs with process teams
- Ability to produce and review equipment specifications and data sheets for switchgear, MCCs, transformers, generators, VFDs, UPS, heat trace, analyzers, instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, and telecom equipment
- Proficiency in performing calibrate studies, short circuit analysis, protective device coordination, arc flash analysis, voltage drop calculations, motor starting analysis, and cable ampacity derating using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent software
- Experience managing external engineering partners and discipline interfaces to ensure deliverables meet project specifications, codes, and client standards including NEC, NFPA 70/70E, IEEE, API, ISA, ASME B31.3, and company standards
- Support procurement activities including RFP packages, vendor bid evaluations, technical clarifications, and construction commissioning RFIs, submittals, FAT, SAT, punchlist, startup energization plans
- Track project progress against milestones, report performance, and coordinate with Development, Engineering, Permitting, GIS, and Land groups to maintain scope, schedule, and budget
- Prepare sealed design packages, calculations, QA/QC documentation, and maintain organized project files and change control
- Experience supporting installation, testing, and commissioning in operating facilities
- Experience with consulting or EPC backgrounds and familiarity with owner standards
- Proficiency with tools such as SKM Power Tools or ETAP, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera, and PLC/RTU programming (exposure a plus)
