Job Description

The Associate Director at Atwell is a leadership role responsible for managing survey teams focused on land development or renewable energy projects, overseeing business operations, fostering client relationships, driving strategic growth, and ensuring operational excellence within a dynamic consulting and engineering firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage business relationships with clients, land developers, contractors, and architects
  • Manage team operations, including staffing, performance, and business planning
  • Develop and execute business development strategies to expand client base and market presence
  • Oversee financial performance, including team utilization, invoicing, profitability, and project financials
  • Assist project managers with accounts receivable collections, project profitability, and change order processes
  • Conduct risk management activities such as contract review and licensing compliance
  • Ensure operational standards and implement technology improvements for efficiency
  • Lead and communicate effectively with staff, fostering a culture of excellence and safety
  • Recruit, onboard, and manage staff performance and development
  • Maintain internal and external relationships, including with leadership and industry organizations
  • Ensure health and safety standards are upheld and communicated throughout the organization

Requirements

  • Survey-focused Bachelor's Degree
  • Professional Survey License required or in process
  • At least 5 years of experience leading survey teams focused on Land Development or Renewable Energy
  • Ability to establish and manage business relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Experience managing business operations for a team according to client guidelines
  • Ability to foster staff development by assisting with yearly targets and annual business planning
  • Ability to define department objectives through collaboration
  • Experience creating a business development strategy across a region, including expanding current clients, identifying new potential clients, and fostering long-term relationships
  • Maintain memberships with local residential and commercial organizations to expand the reputation of the group and organization
  • Established relationships with land developers, general contractors, and architects to identify and win projects
  • Manage financial goals of the group, including team utilization, invoice ratio, multipliers, and profitability
  • Assist Project Managers with Accounts Receivable collections, effort vs contract value, project profitability, change order submission, and monthly invoicing
  • Conduct contract review, proposal review, licensing review for risk management
  • Manage invoices for subcontractors as needed
  • Ensure deadlines and commitments are fulfilled
  • Create and maintain current company standards per client request
  • Research and implement technology improvements
  • Ensure operational excellence and a repeatable process for deliverables
  • Communicate effectively with employees and lead by example with open communication
  • Manage staff and leverage other teams to define recruitment and interview processes
  • Negotiate a full compensation package and stay aware of market standards to remain competitive
  • Maintain internal relationships and communicate often with Regional Vice President, Local Vice Presidents, and Directors
  • Onboard new staff and create a culture of excellence from day one
  • Communicate performance issues to HR, Senior Leadership, and individuals for documentation and employee termination once approved by HR
  • Prioritize Health and Safety, communicate potential issues with Safety staff, and stay updated on industry standards
  • Possess a Survey-focused Bachelor's Degree
  • Hold or be in the process of obtaining a Professional Survey License
  • Have at least 5 years of experience leading survey teams focused on Land Development or Renewable Energy
