Job Description
The Legal Manager will oversee legal, regulatory, and contractual aspects of large-scale battery energy storage projects, providing strategic legal support throughout the project lifecycle from development to operations, and negotiating high-value agreements to ensure alignment with company risk and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead legal and strategic support for key FID-stage battery energy storage projects
- Negotiate and manage critical project agreements including offtake, connection, equipment supply, land, and finance documents
- Support project financing through review and negotiation of tripartite agreements and finance instruments
- Ensure legal compliance and manage legal approvals and budgets throughout project lifecycle
- Coordinate stakeholder relationships and legal workflows to meet project milestones
- Structure complex project and finance agreements balancing legal risk, commercial outcomes, and strategic goals
- Identify, allocate, and mitigate legal risks across all project phases
- Interpret and apply complex regulatory frameworks to project structures and operational decisions
- Embed legal governance frameworks into project and corporate workflows
Requirements
- Experience in structuring complex project and finance agreements such as EPC, OEM, offtake, and tripartite agreements that balance legal risk, commercial outcomes, and strategic goals.
- Ability to identify, allocate, and mitigate legal risks across all phases of a project from development through to operations.
- Experience in executing legal components of project finance transactions, including lender negotiations, due diligence, and alignment of finance instruments with project documentation.
- Proficiency in interpreting complex regulatory frameworks and applying them to project structures, operational decisions, and compliance strategies across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience in embedding legal governance frameworks into project and corporate workflows, ensuring alignment with internal approvals and external obligations.
- Strong technical expertise in legal, risk, and compliance areas relevant to large-scale battery energy storage system projects.
- Ability to lead and negotiate complex, high-value project and finance agreements for BESS projects through to execution, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and strategic objectives.
- Experience in supporting project financing by reviewing and negotiating tripartite agreements and finance instruments, and providing legal input on due diligence and lender requests.
- Experience in managing legal approvals and budgets in line with governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations throughout project delivery.
- Ability to coordinate stakeholder relationships and legal workflows to support key project milestones, ensuring timely and aligned legal inputs.
