The Senior Compliance Counsel at Akaysha is responsible for developing and leading the enterprise compliance strategy, ensuring regulatory adherence across global operations, and supporting the company's growth in the renewable energy storage sector.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and improve the enterprise compliance framework and strategy.
Lead, coach, and build capability within the compliance team.
Identify, map, and oversee regulatory obligations and compliance registers across all jurisdictions.
Coordinate compliance with energy market rules, trading obligations, and competition laws.
Oversee compliance with the Australian SOCI Act and equivalent regimes internationally.
Design and operate risk-based compliance frameworks aligned with global standards.
Implement controls and training related to competition and antitrust laws.
Ensure compliance with energy market rules and participant obligations.
Manage regulatory reporting and compliance for trading activities.
Requirements
Experience in developing, implementing, and continuously improving an enterprise compliance framework and strategy that aligns with global best practices and is scalable across all asset lifecycle phases.
Ability to design and operate an integrated, risk-based compliance framework aligned to global standards such as ISO 37301, suited to regulated energy and infrastructure businesses.
Understanding of competition and antitrust laws relevant to energy markets and trading activities, with the ability to implement preventative controls and training.
Deep understanding of energy market rules, participant obligations, and compliance requirements applicable to Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets and market participation.
Expertise in compliance frameworks for trading activities, including regulatory reporting requirements.
Experience in coordinating compliance with the Australian SOCI Act and equivalent regimes elsewhere, including developing policies, conducting monitoring and assurance activities, and overseeing training and incident management.
Ability to identify, map, and oversee regulatory obligations and compliance registers across all jurisdictions, including engaging with regulators and coordinating responses to audits and reviews.
Experience working closely with legal, risk, insurance, and other relevant functions to develop, implement, and monitor compliance frameworks, systems, policies, procedures, and regulatory obligation registers.
Proven leadership skills to lead, coach, and build capability within a compliance team, and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and operational teams.
Experience working in regulated energy and infrastructure businesses, with knowledge of energy market rules, trading obligations, competition laws, and data protection regulations.
Ability to develop, implement, and monitor compliance frameworks, systems, policies, procedures, and regulatory obligation registers in alignment with governance, compliance, and risk management practices.
Strong communication skills to ensure Board, Management, and employees understand and meet their regulatory obligations through effective frameworks, systems, training, oversight, and reporting.
Flexibility to be based at Akaysha’s Melbourne HQ or Sydney Office with the option to work in a hybrid capacity, spending time both in the office and at home.
