Job Description
A Lead Mechanical Engineer role focused on leading a team in designing packaging and thermal systems for high-power electronics used in renewable energy and energy storage applications, overseeing mechanical architecture, cooling solutions, and collaboration with suppliers from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Mechanical Engineers on packaging and cooling of power electronics
- Design and own mechanical and thermal architecture of power electronics systems
- Create and maintain engineering drawings in a PLM system
- Meet cost and cooling performance targets
- Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturing shops for material procurement and process development
- Perform DFM and FMEA analysis internally and with external suppliers
- Conduct FEA analysis for structural and thermal performance using simulation tools
- Work with Power Electronics engineers to achieve electrical parameter targets
- Coordinate with production teams for final system handoff
Requirements
- Bachelor's or higher Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in power electronics packaging and thermal design
- Experience with CAD systems Creo, Solidworks or similar using PLM systems
- Proficient in 3D modeling and generation of CAD drawings
- Knowledge of sheet metal, extrusion and welding
- Familiar with structural design using FEA software
- Proficient in thermal design, both air cooling and liquid cooling, for power semiconductor heat dissipation
- Capable of managing suppliers, vendors and prototyping shops
- Knowledge of harnessing, cabling, and high amperage bus bar design
- Experience with surface finishes such as coating, plating, etc.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to work in a fast-paced environment
