Job Description
The Permitting Specialist - Water Rights role involves coordinating and obtaining water and underground injection control permits for geothermal energy projects, working with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to facilitate project development and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with exploration, development teams, and third-party consultants to obtain water rights and UIC permits from federal and state agencies.
- Assist in obtaining temporary water permits to support project progression into drilling and flow testing phases.
- Collaborate with the Government Affairs team to improve and streamline the permitting process.
- Engage with federal, state, and local jurisdictions, as well as community leaders, to facilitate permitting activities.
- Work with third-party consultants to minimize community water right impacts and accelerate data collection campaigns.
Requirements
- Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.
- Candidates must have at least 5 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, in-house energy development, permitting experience, and/or agency employment in the western United States.
- Candidates must have working knowledge of water rights ownership and permitting in the Western US.
- Candidates must have working knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency Underground Injection Control regulation, specific to Class V wells.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with third-party consultants to avoid, minimize, and mitigate potential community water right impacts, with the end goal of accelerating scalable data collection campaigns.
- Candidates must possess strong project management, team leadership, and technical writing communication skills.
- Candidates must demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking to create new processes and systems, with a collaborative spirit and team-player mentality, and strong attention to detail.
- Candidates must have a high degree of business acumen and experience with stakeholder engagement, particularly within the energy industry.
- Candidates must be able to effectively engage directly with federal, state, and local jurisdictions with authority and community leaders.
- Candidates must have a strong understanding of laws, regulations, and processes governing water rights in states throughout the west.
- Candidates must have an extensive background and expertise in hydrology or related disciplines (preferred).
