The Water Treatment and Distribution Operator is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of drinking water treatment and distribution systems, ensuring compliance, safety, and efficient system performance while working outdoors and responding to emergencies as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in the daily operations and maintenance of drinking water treatment and distribution systems.
Monitor and control treatment processes to ensure compliance and optimal system performance.
Respond to emergency situations, equipment failures, and alarm events promptly.
Assist in implementing and managing routine and capital repair and replacement projects.
Coordinate and communicate with staff, clients, regulators, contractors, and engineering firms to ensure effective system operation.
Prepare reports for regulators, clients, and the organization regarding system performance and compliance.
Work in a safe and professional manner following established safety, operating, and emergency procedures.
Requirements
Possession of a valid operator's license or certification for water treatment and distribution systems as required by the state of Maine or relevant regulatory authority.
Experience working in the operation and maintenance of drinking water treatment and distribution systems, with a demonstrated ability to participate in daily process monitoring and comprehensive maintenance activities.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather, and perform physical tasks associated with water system operations.
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation schedule, including responding to emergency situations outside of normal work hours, with a 7-day on-call coverage schedule and a weekly stipend of $200.
Ability to work a rotating 4-day workweek, 10 hours per day, with shifts scheduled either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday from 0600 to 1600.
Capability to work independently in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision, while following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.
Experience or ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with operations staff, client representatives, regulators, contractors, and engineering firms.
Experience in preparing reports for regulators, clients, and internal management related to water system operations and compliance.
Ability to manage or assist in managing routine and capital repair and replacement projects, emergency response activities, and system optimization efforts.
Willingness to work in a safety-conscious manner, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures during daily operations and emergency situations.
Participation in a rotating on-call schedule, including responding to alarms, process upsets, equipment failures, and other emergency events as needed.
Ability to work in a team environment alongside other operators and project staff, contributing to the overall operational success of the water treatment and distribution system.
