Job Description
A summer internship position focused on developing immersive VR/AR interfaces and systems for humanoid robot teleoperation, involving real-time software prototyping, 3D scene reconstruction, and human-robot interaction research.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test systems for intuitive robot control through immersive VR/AR interfaces
- Develop real-time software prototypes integrating robot hardware, motion capture, haptics, and 3D graphics
- Refine VR/AR interfaces for robot control and develop tools for 3D scene reconstruction and robot state awareness
- Explore techniques for motion retargeting, body tracking, and hand pose estimation
- Build tools for 3D scene reconstruction, collision detection, and singularity visualization
- Conduct user studies to evaluate human-robot interaction prototypes
- Contribute to open-source codebases and research publications related to robotics and spatial computing
Requirements
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and testing real-time software prototypes that integrate robot hardware, motion capture, haptics, and 3D graphics.
- Proficiency in developing and refining VR AR interfaces for robot control.
- Experience building tools for 3D scene reconstruction and robot state awareness, including point clouds, collision detection, and singularity visualization.
- Knowledge of techniques for motion retargeting, body tracking, and hand pose estimation.
- Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams in mechanical design, perception, controls, and UX.
- Demonstrated ability to develop systems that enable humans to intuitively control robots through immersive interfaces.
- Experience in developing software prototypes that blend spatial computing with robotic capabilities.
- Willingness to participate in user studies, contribute to open-source codebases, and research publications.
- Availability to work in-office in Cambridge, MA for the duration of the 12-week internship in Summer 2026.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.
