This internship involves developing perception, modeling, and control methodologies for high-performance vehicle driving, with a focus on inferring and reasoning about uncertainty, through research and experiments with high-performance vehicles on a racetrack.
Key Responsibilities
Develop perception, modeling, and control methodologies for high-performance driving that infer and reason about uncertainty.
Conduct experiments with high-performance vehicles on a closed racetrack to validate developed methodologies.
Apply machine learning, optimization, and control theory techniques to enhance vehicle safety and performance capabilities.
Requirements
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related discipline.
Candidates must have knowledge of perception, modeling, and control methodologies for high-performance driving.
Candidates must have the ability to develop new perception, modeling, and/or control methodologies for high-performance driving that infer and reason about uncertainty.
Candidates must be able to apply their knowledge to novel problems and develop impactful research.
Candidates must be available for a paid, 12-week internship during Summer 2026.
Candidates must be able to work in a hybrid in-office role at Toyota Research Institute headquarters in Los Altos, CA.
Candidates must have experience with experiments involving high-performance vehicles, specifically on a closed racetrack.
Candidates must be able to provide a full list of publications via a link to Google Scholar when submitting their CV.
Candidates must have a pay expectation within the range of $45 to $65 per hour at the start of employment for California-based roles.
Candidates must possess the skills, knowledge, and experience relevant to the role as determined by the organization, which may influence the offered pay.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States, as the role involves employment in California.
