Job Description

The Energy Materials Intern will contribute to Toyota Research Institute's energy systems research by developing analytical tools and strategies related to sustainable mobility, focusing on policy mechanisms, behavioral assumptions, and technology pathways to influence vehicle transition and powertrain development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to energy systems research by developing analytical tools.
  • Assess how policy mechanisms, behavioral assumptions, and technology pathways influence vehicle turnover and powertrain mix.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to support decarbonization strategies using AI and data-driven methods.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as materials science, energy systems, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to contribute to energy systems research programs by scoping and developing in-house analytical tools.
  • Experience or knowledge in applying AI, data-driven methods, and automation to materials science and device engineering is desirable.
  • Familiarity with policy mechanisms, behavioral assumptions, and technology pathways related to vehicle turnover and future vehicle powertrain mix is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills to support interdisciplinary systems analysis and decarbonization strategy development.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work with scientists from universities, national labs, and internal teams.
  • Ability to learn new skills at the interface of energy and AI continuously.
  • Availability to work in California-based roles with a pay range of $45 to $65 per hour, depending on experience and other factors.
  • Willingness to participate in industrial research relevant to the materials science and clean energy community.
  • Physical and mental capacity to engage in research activities, including data analysis, modeling, and tool development.
