Job Description
A research internship focused on human-robot interaction, where interns will design and conduct studies on how non-expert users teach robots through multimodal communication, contributing to advancements in robotic manipulation and autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement human-robot interaction studies involving multimodal communication modes
- Develop and test various teaching modes for users to engage with robots
- Analyze how non-roboticist users teach robots to perform real-world tasks according to their preferences
- Explore how user expectations and behaviors evolve over multiple interactions with robots
- Present research findings through peer-reviewed publications and organizational presentations
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a relevant academic program (such as Computer Science, Robotics, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields) with the expectation to contribute to research activities during the internship period.
- Ability to plan and implement a human-robot interaction study, including the implementation of various teaching modes for users to engage with robots.
- Experience or knowledge in understanding how general population non-roboticist users teach different robot embodiments to perform real-world tasks to their preferences through multimodal modes of communication (e.g., visual, auditory, tactile).
- Ability to incorporate a longitudinal element into the project, exploring how user expectations may adapt over multiple interactions with robot behaviors.
- Excellent communication skills to present study findings to colleagues and the larger organization.
- Availability to work in-office at the Cambridge, MA location for the duration of the 12-week summer internship.
- Willingness to contribute to research that may result in peer-reviewed conference papers or journal articles.
