Job Description
A research internship focused on developing and evaluating world models for autonomous driving using machine learning techniques, with opportunities to prototype, publish, and contribute to the future of self-driving systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct original research at the intersection of machine learning and autonomous driving.
- Develop novel components of world models for driving knowledge representation.
- Improve decision-making processes through model-based reinforcement learning.
- Advance 3D perception capabilities for dynamic driving scenes.
- Enhance simulation-to-reality transfer techniques.
- Prototype and evaluate research ideas in closed-loop simulations.
- Collaborate with engineers to deploy models in simulation and hardware.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as machine learning, autonomous driving, robotics, computer vision, or related disciplines.
- Experience conducting original research at the intersection of machine learning and autonomous driving.
- Experience developing novel components of world models, improving decision-making through model-based reinforcement learning (RL), advancing 3D perception for dynamic scenes, or enhancing simulation-to-reality transfer.
- Ability to prototype and evaluate ideas in closed-loop simulations.
- Ability to contribute to research publications alongside TRI scientists.
- Relevant publications in the fields of machine learning, autonomous driving, or related areas are highly encouraged.
- Good collaboration skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.
- Links to relevant open-source contributions or technical project write-ups must be included with the application.
- Availability to participate in a 12-week summer internship in 2026, with the internship being a hybrid in-office role at TRI headquarters.
- Willingness to work at TRI headquarters located in either California or Massachusetts, depending on the role.
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.
