Job Description
This internship involves developing control, modeling, and perception methodologies for high-performance vehicle driving, focusing on inferring and reasoning about uncertainty, with applications in safety and performance on high-speed vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop control, modeling, and perception methodologies for high-performance driving that infer and reason about uncertainty
- Conduct experiments with high-performance vehicles on a closed racetrack
- Apply machine learning, optimization, and control theory techniques to advance vehicle safety and performance
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a university program with a focus on control systems, modeling, perception, machine learning, optimization, or related fields.
- Experience in developing control, modeling, and/or perception methodologies for high-performance driving or related applications.
- Ability to develop new control, modeling, or perception methodologies that infer and reason about uncertainty.
- Demonstrated knowledge of machine learning, optimization, and control theory as applied to vehicle safety and performance capabilities.
- Experience applying knowledge to novel problems and developing impactful research in the field of automated driving or related areas.
- Availability to participate in a 12-week paid internship during Summer 2026, from approximately June to September.
- Willingness to work in a hybrid in-office role at Toyota Research Institute headquarters in Los Altos, CA, including conducting experiments with high-performance vehicles on a closed racetrack.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States (implied by the need to work in Los Altos, CA).
