Job Description
The internship involves developing methodologies for AI agents to acquire and document expert knowledge, with a focus on enhancing their ability to plan, design, and execute complex tasks in scientific and engineering domains within the field of energy materials research at Toyota Research Institute.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop methodologies for AI agents to acquire and document expert knowledge.
- Design and showcase practical applications of agentic AI systems in scientific and engineering domains.
- Create adaptable frameworks to improve AI agents' capacity to plan, design, and execute complex tasks.
- Contribute to accelerating materials research through computational modeling, data analysis, and automation.
Requirements
- The internship is a paid 12-week position for Fall 2025 Winter 2026, requiring in-office hybrid work in Los Altos, HQ.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to develop methodologies for AI agents to acquire and document expert knowledge, improving their capacity to plan, design, and execute complex tasks within scientific and engineering domains.
- Applicants should have experience in showcasing the practical application of agentic AI systems, with the goal of producing adaptable frameworks and advancing understanding of AI's contribution to scientific exploration and automation.
- Candidates must have a background in materials science, AI, data-driven methods, automation, or related fields relevant to accelerating materials research for sustainable mobility.
- Applicants should have the ability to collaborate closely with universities, national labs, and colleagues across global Toyota to develop and translate new technologies into practice.
- Candidates must be able to submit a CV that includes a full list of publications and a link to Google Scholar.
- Applicants should have a strong interest or experience in interdisciplinary systems analysis, materials design, discovery, and deployment related to batteries, fuel cells, or similar devices.
- Candidates must be able to work in a hybrid role, combining in-office and remote work as required by the internship location.
