Job Description
This internship offers undergraduate Civil Engineering students the opportunity to work on site design and land development projects, assisting with drawings, calculations, and construction administration tasks alongside professional engineers during the summer of 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed drawings for site planning, roads, utilities, parking lots, grading, and drainage projects.
- Assist with calculations for project dimensions, elevations, and quantities.
- Interpret plans and observe construction operations to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Requirements
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age as of May 30, 2025, due to responsibilities that may require operation of a motorized vehicle to conduct business on behalf of TKDA.
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate Civil Engineering student with a strong interest in site design or land development.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime throughout the summer of 2026 from mid-May through mid-August.
- Availability to work primarily from the office in Bloomington or an assigned project site, with the possibility of flexible hybrid work arrangements.
- Willingness to assist with preparing detailed drawings for site planning, roads, utilities, parking lots, grading and drainage, stormwater management, and erosion and flood control projects.
- Ability to assist with calculations for project dimensions and elevations and computing tabulating quantities.
- Willingness to assist with construction administration responsibilities such as interpreting plans, observing construction operations, and maintaining reports to ensure construction conforms to plans and specifications.
- Candidates must complete a standard pre-employment background screening, including Social Security verification, educational verification, review of criminal convictions, and driving history, upon acceptance of a conditional offer of employment.
