Job Description

This internship offers undergraduate Civil Engineering students the opportunity to work on site design and land development projects, assisting with detailed drawings, calculations, and construction administration tasks alongside professional engineers and technicians during the summer of 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed drawings for site planning, roads, utilities, parking lots, grading, and drainage projects
  • Assist with calculations for project dimensions, elevations, and quantities
  • Interpret plans and observe construction operations to ensure conformance to plans and specifications
  • Maintain reports related to construction activities

Requirements

  • Candidates must be at least 21 years of age as of May 30, 2025, due to responsibilities that may require operation of a motorized vehicle to conduct business on behalf of TKDA.
  • Must be an undergraduate Civil Engineering student with a strong interest in site design or land development.
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime throughout the summer of 2026 from mid-May through mid-August.
  • Ability to work primarily from the office in Bloomington or an assigned project site, with flexibility for hybrid work arrangements.
  • Candidates must be able to assist with preparing detailed drawings for site planning, roads, utilities, parking lots, grading and drainage, stormwater management, and erosion and flood control projects.
  • Must be able to assist with calculations for project dimensions and elevations and computing tabulating quantities.
  • Willingness to assist with construction administration responsibilities, including interpreting plans, observing construction operations, and maintaining reports to ensure construction conforms to plans and specifications.
  • Candidates must complete a standard pre-employment background screening, including Social Security verification, educational verification, review of criminal convictions, and driving history.
