Job Description
The Renewable Operations Center Operator is responsible for real-time monitoring, control, and compliance of utility-scale solar PV power plants, supporting grid reliability and safe operations from a remote control center. The role involves operational oversight, incident management, and data analysis to ensure optimal plant performance and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate utility-scale solar PV plants in real-time using SCADA, EMS, and monitoring platforms.
- Execute remote switching, curtailments, inverter setpoint changes, and plant controls according to procedures.
- Respond to dispatch instructions and operational directives from Balancing Authorities and Transmission Operators.
- Identify, diagnose, and escalate plant alarms, outages, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Maintain situational awareness of plant status, weather, grid constraints, and interconnection limits.
- Support NERC compliance by executing and documenting operational activities and maintaining accurate records.
- Lead initial response to outages, grid events, and weather-related incidents, coordinating with relevant teams.
- Support disturbance reporting, event classification, and internal/external audits with operational evidence.
- Extract data and develop dashboards/reports using Power BI to analyze operational trends and performance.
- Collaborate with teams to improve operational insights, reporting automation, and decision-making processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related technical discipline OR equivalent experience within the company supporting solar PV assets
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience working with utility-scale solar PV systems
- Demonstrated familiarity with SCADA or plant monitoring platforms
- Complete internal ROC onboarding and operations training program
- Complete NERC fundamentals training within 6 to 12 months
- Demonstrate proficiency in event logging and documentation discipline
- Ability to operate in a 24/7, 365-day Remote Operations Center environment with a rotating DuPont shift schedule, including multiple consecutive day and night shifts, and extended rest periods
- Must be comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule
- Support grid reliability, plant availability, safe operations, and regulatory compliance across a geographically diverse solar portfolio
- Execute remote switching, curtailments, inverter setpoint changes, and plant controls in accordance with approved operating procedures
- Respond to dispatch instructions and operational directives from Balancing Authorities and Transmission Operators
- Identify, diagnose, and escalate plant alarms, outages, and abnormal operating conditions
- Maintain real-time situational awareness of plant status, weather conditions, grid constraints, and interconnection limits
- Perform operational duties in alignment with NERC and GOP-2 standards, including documenting operator communications, maintaining accurate event logs, and supporting disturbance reporting and event classification
- Lead initial response to forced outages, inverter trips, grid events, and weather-related incidents, coordinating with Field O M, OEMs, EPCs, and internal engineering teams
- Support post-event reviews and corrective action tracking
- Support operational and performance reporting by extracting data from SCADA systems, developing dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI, and analyzing trends in outages, curtailments, alarms, and availability
- Support internal and external NERC audits by providing operational records and evidence
- Strong situational awareness and decision-making under pressure
- Clear verbal and written communication during normal and emergency operations
- High attention to detail and procedural discipline
