Job Description

The R D Test Engineer at Sila is responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing experiments related to battery materials and processes, providing critical data to support scale-up and innovation efforts in developing advanced lithium-ion batteries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments on lab and pilot scale equipment to gather critical data.
  • Develop and implement experimental plans to investigate equipment performance and process conditions.
  • Identify failure modes and root causes, and develop robust solutions.
  • Manage and optimize test platforms to ensure high-quality experimental results.
  • Conduct complex data analysis and lead data-driven projects to inform process scale-up.

Requirements

  • At least a B.S. in engineering or physical sciences (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Physics), with advanced degrees preferred.
  • Four (4) years of relevant professional experience; an advanced degree such as MS or ME may substitute for a portion of the required experience.
  • Experience conducting or leading experimental R D projects, including test planning, experimental design, preparation, execution, analysis, and communication of results.
  • Exceptional laboratory testing aptitude with intuition for what will work and the ability to execute quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex reactive or thermo-mechanical systems such as reactors, generators, catalytic systems, flow cells, or similar machines/processes.
  • Understanding and proven application of mechanical, process, and materials engineering principles including heat, flow, structures, thermodynamics, kinetics, and materials.
  • Experience with data analysis and proficiency in navigating data platforms using Python or similar programming languages.
  • Experience with developing and deploying new instrumentation and measurement systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in electronics, wiring, and instrumentation including analog signals, AC and DC power fundamentals, control wiring, and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience implementing lab or field-deployed electronics, sensors, and actuators.
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection daily.
  • Physical ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs with lift equipment and carts, and to move long distances such as between buildings.
  • Ability to be stationary for extended periods and perform precise and repetitive handling of materials.
  • Proficiency in operating a computer and other office equipment such as laptops, copiers, and printers.

Compensation/salary range: $128,000 to $162,000 (base pay, subject to factors like education, experience, and skills)
