Job Description

A Controls and Automation Engineer responsible for designing, deploying, and improving industrial machine control software and electrical systems for advanced battery manufacturing equipment, collaborating across teams to ensure robust and well-documented solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and improve machine control software and electrical subsystems for synthesis tools
  • Architect and implement software for next-generation synthesis equipment
  • Develop and enhance internal software libraries used across research and production
  • Debug and improve hardware and equipment-driving software
  • Create and document robust unit tests for machinery
  • Gather user feedback and implement iterative improvements

Requirements

  • 5-8 years experience in directly or related field experience.
  • Experience deploying code on systems that interact with the physical world.
  • Experience designing HMIs and writing the underlying code.
  • Experience with high-level, object-oriented programming in C or Python preferred.
  • Experience with revision control software Git preferred.
  • Ability to write Structured Text and familiarity with other IEC 61131-3 languages.
  • Development, testing, and implementation experience of safety programs TwinSAFE preferred.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of field-deployed electronics, sensors, and motion components.
  • Experience with implementation of industrial Fieldbus communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, EthernetIP, Modbus, etc.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical design, including wiring diagrams, industrial network architecture, control panel design, power distribution, and protocols for process automation.
  • Experience with unique and challenging industrial electrical safety requirements.
  • Understanding of how to integrate machines with facility business interfaces such as SCADA, MES, ERP, etc.
  • At least a B.S. in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Physical ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Ability to move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts.
  • Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and be stationary for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to reach low shelves or items on the floor.
  • Ability to enter spaces narrower than 3 feet.
  • Ability to climb stairs or over containment walls.
  • Ability to perform precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer in a fixed location.

Compensation/salary range: $121,000 to $152,000
