Job Description
A hands-on engineer responsible for battery research and manufacturing systems, focusing on developing and optimizing lithium-ion battery materials, testing methods, and quality systems to support next-generation battery commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead advanced metrology execution and implement continuous improvement projects for quality systems
- Develop battery characterization and test methods for scientific understanding and process control
- Own cell testing, planning, operation, and failure analysis to optimize yield for new battery materials
- Plan and execute designed experiments to elucidate structure-process-property relationships in battery materials
- Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor junior engineers and technicians in electrochemical testing and data analysis
Requirements
- BS or MS degree in engineering, materials science, or physical sciences with 3-5 years of battery materials or metrology industry experience, OR a PhD with 0-2 years of experience.
- Proven track record in hands-on lithium-ion battery research, cell testing operations, and failure analysis.
- Demonstrated capability in developing and validating new test methods.
- Proficiency in advanced data analysis and statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
- Experience using Quality Systems such as SPC, Control Plans, and continuous improvement methodologies in a laboratory or pilot manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Experience with data scripting and database tools such as Python or SQL is a plus.
- Ability to lead advanced metrology execution and implement continuous improvement projects to ensure robust, repeatable quality systems.
- Ability to develop battery characterization and test methods to address needs for scientific understanding and process control.
- Ability to own cell testing, planning and operation, failure analysis, and drive yield optimization for next-generation battery materials.
- Experience planning and executing designed experiments (DOEs) both internally and with external development partners to elucidate structure process property relationships in novel battery materials.
- Ability to serve as a subject matter expert and technical resource, mentoring junior engineers and technicians in electrochemical testing and data analysis.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to clearly communicate technical findings to diverse audiences.
- Willingness and ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection as needed.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
- Ability to use a glove box to prepare samples.
- Ability to move items weighing up to 25 lbs with lift equipment and carts.
- Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and remain stationary for extended periods.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer in a fixed location.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $128,000 to $162,000 base pay
