Job Description

A Technician in the Battery Operations group responsible for assembling, testing, and characterizing lithium-ion batteries using Sila's innovative materials, supporting the development of next-generation battery technologies through hands-on laboratory work and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and characterize chemical mixtures and materials for lithium-ion batteries
  • Assemble lithium-ion batteries and conduct testing on battery cyclers
  • Fabricate mechanical fixtures, perform tool maintenance, and manage cables
  • Follow standard operating procedures and seek process improvements
  • Accurately record work data and maintain online database updates
  • Manage inventory and maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Collaborate with team members including Technicians, Researchers, Engineers, and Scientists
  • Communicate test results to troubleshoot and resolve issues

Requirements

  • Ability to work carefully and safely with materials and equipment
  • Experience in preparing and characterizing chemical mixtures and other materials to be used in lithium-ion batteries
  • Ability to assemble lithium-ion batteries and test them on battery cyclers
  • Ability to fabricate mechanical fixtures, undertake tool preventative maintenance, and perform cable management
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures while continuously looking for ways to improve processes and operations
  • Ability to accurately record work and keep data updated in an online database
  • Ability to manage inventory and maintain a tidy and effective work area
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Technicians, Research Associates, Engineers, and Scientists
  • Effective communication skills to troubleshoot, correct, and prevent issues
  • Willingness and ability to work a 12-hour shift rotation schedule supporting 12-hour, 7-day operations once fully trained and qualified
  • Willingness to work overtime hours if requested and approved by Supervisor
  • Ability to work in a laboratory using glove boxes and fume hoods
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection every day
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses
  • Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs
  • Repetitive use of hands with delicate to forceful handling of materials
  • Flexibility to adapt work schedule as needed by the team to achieve operations targets

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $31/hr to $36/hr, with potential for overtime
Work schedule: 12-hour shift rotation, including options for day shifts and specific schedules during training and post-training
Work environment perks: Onsite laboratory environment with PPE requirements, ability to work with glove boxes and fume hoods
