A Software Engineering Manager at SOE leads and manages embedded software development teams, making technical decisions, ensuring quality and delivery, and collaborating across disciplines to solve complex engineering challenges in aerospace and related fields.
Key Responsibilities
Own software technical decisions and outcomes across projects, managing design tradeoffs, risks, and delivery challenges
Lead, mentor, and manage the software engineering team, setting performance expectations and developing technical and leadership skills
Provide hands-on technical guidance throughout the embedded software development lifecycle
Partner with business and project leaders to define technical scope, plans, and success criteria
Establish standards, processes, and best practices to improve software design quality and efficiency
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Science, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related field
7 years of experience in a software engineering and hardware development role for aerospace, industrial automation, and/or robotics, especially for tightly coupled systems
5 years of progressively impactful software engineering leadership roles
Previous experience in both a people management and engineering design leadership role
Expertise in successfully executing end-to-end embedded system design from requirements generation through software bring-up
Proven hands-on experience designing and implementing software development processes such as SDLC, SecDevOps, CI/CD, including evaluating, selecting, and configuring supporting toolchains and infrastructure to establish scalable development workflows
Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders
Ability to evaluate and manage project risk, including scope creep, remediating missing critical requirements, and ensuring that technical challenges are sufficiently addressed
Applicant must be willing to work 40 hours a week on-site in Redmond, Washington, USA
Applicant must be eligible to work on export controlled projects under U.S. Government export control regulations, including being a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b-3, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
Applicant must be willing to travel monthly to the El Segundo, CA office
