Job Description

The Data Center Project Engineer supports the construction and management of data center infrastructure projects by coordinating communication, tracking design changes, managing vendors, and ensuring high-quality, timely delivery of electrical and mechanical systems on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support CSA Engineers in building electrical and mechanical systems for data centers
  • Coordinate communication among general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems for design changes, RFIs, and change orders
  • Review and request MOPs for safety and risk assessment
  • On-board and manage vendors, including badging and orientation
  • Update project management software with milestones, correspondence, and documents
  • Monitor delivery of owner-furnished materials to the site
  • Compile and store construction data from vendors
  • Manage safety, quality, and substantial completion checklists

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent construction experience or a strong technical background such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar disciplines
  • 1-3 years of experience in construction or project management
  • Experience working in a data center or mission critical facility such as hospitals, military facilities, or public safety facilities
  • Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations including utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems, or SCADA systems
  • Experience in vendor negotiation and management for data center or upgrade construction contracts
  • CFC license or PMI qualification such as PMP, IPMA, or IPMC
  • Ability to support the fast, high-quality delivery of data center construction on-site daily, interacting with construction managers and stakeholders
  • Ability to establish communication and coordination across a data center region’s general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Ability to develop and maintain a tracking system for design changes, RFIs, requests for information, and change orders, including tracking status of priority and due dates
  • Ability to review Method of Procedure (MOPs) for proper detail, necessity, and risk
  • Experience with onboarding new vendors for badging and orientation
  • Experience updating project management software with milestone dates, correspondence, and documents
  • Monitoring delivery of owner-furnished material to the site
  • Compiling and storing construction data from vendors
  • Managing checklists including substantial completion checks, safety, and quality
