Job Description
The Data Center Project Engineer supports the construction and coordination of data center facilities, ensuring high-quality delivery through communication, documentation management, and vendor oversight on-site. They work closely with various teams to manage project workflows, safety, and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate communication among general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams for data center projects
- Develop and maintain tracking systems for design changes, RFIs, and change orders with status updates
- Review and request MOPs to ensure proper detail, necessity, and risk assessment
- Onboard new vendors for badging and orientation processes
- Update project management software with milestones, correspondence, and documentation
- Monitor delivery of owner-furnished materials to the construction site
- Compile and store construction data from vendors
- Manage checklists related to safety, quality, and substantial completion
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent construction experience or a strong technical background such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar disciplines.
- 1-3 years of experience in construction or project management.
- Experience working in a data center or mission critical facility such as hospitals, military facilities, or public safety facilities.
- Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations, including utility substation feeds, transformers, switchgear, VFI Class UPS, DRUPS, PDUs, ATS, STS, SLA VRLA batteries and associated systems, diesel gas turbine generators and related fuel systems, Surge Suppression, Active Harmonic Filtering, battery monitoring systems, branch circuit monitoring systems, or SCADA systems.
- Experience in vendor negotiation and management for data center or upgrade construction contracts.
- CFC license or PMI qualification such as PMP, IPMA, or IPMC.
- Ability to establish communication and coordination across a data center region’s general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Ability to develop and maintain a tracking system for design changes, RFIs, and change orders, including tracking status of priority and due dates.
- Ability to review Method of Procedures (MOPs) for proper detail, necessity, and risk.
- Experience in onboarding new vendors for badging and orientation.
- Proficiency in updating project management software with milestone dates, correspondence, and documents.
- Ability to monitor delivery of owner-furnished material to the site.
- Experience in compiling and storing construction data from vendors.
- Ability to manage checklists including substantial completion checks, safety, and quality.
- Willingness to work on-site near Lubbock, TX.
