Job Description
The Director of Community Engagement at SB Energy is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with local communities, developing engagement strategies, and representing the company in public forums to support the development of large-scale AI data centers across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with local community leaders, organizations, and residents.
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies for new AI data centers.
- Negotiate and secure property tax incentives and economic development packages.
- Coordinate with internal teams on incentive compliance and community benefits.
- Create proactive communication plans to address community concerns and highlight project benefits.
- Monitor community sentiment and advise leadership on risks and opportunities.
- Conduct community needs assessments and translate research into actionable insights.
- Represent SB Energy at public forums, hearings, and community events.
- Define and execute strategic community development programs.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or JD is preferred but not required.
- At least 8 years of experience in community engagement, business development, market development, economic development, public policy, or program project management.
- Proven track record engaging and building trust with diverse community stakeholders including local municipalities and non-profit decision makers for large infrastructure or technology projects.
- Experience creating and implementing external communications plans, including crisis communication management, utilizing modern communication strategies.
- Experience integrating community benefits such as workforce development, education, and infrastructure support into development strategies.
- Strong public speaking and facilitation skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive political and reputational issues.
- Experience managing contractors, agencies, or other third-parties.
- Understanding and experience in developing and presenting strategic recommendations from a broad range of data sources, including survey data, social intelligence, qualitative research, online telemetry, and business metrics.
- Collaborative and adaptable approach with experience working across government, community, and corporate teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 30%.
