Job Description
The role involves leading the development and architecture of foundational systems for Samsara's IoT platform, driving technical innovation, and collaborating across teams to build scalable, high-quality software that impacts physical operations worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive technology choices, implement services, and establish architectural patterns for the platform.
- Identify opportunities and initiate strategic discussions to influence platform technology and engineering culture.
- Architect, design, and develop software to enable scalable operations.
- Lead teams in delivering products and capabilities that contribute to company revenue.
- Solve complex technical problems to ensure high-quality, timely product releases.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and product teams to build tools and solutions with a platform-first approach.
- Mentor and lead engineers to improve system design, lifecycle management, and failure handling.
- Represent Samsara in external forums to contribute to the company's engineering brand.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 12 years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm-related solutions with at least 4 of those years in an architect or leadership role
- Stellar programming coding fundamentals
- 4 years of experience building large-scale distributed systems
- 4 years of experience leading cross-organization projects
- Expertise working with web services at a massive scale deployed on Cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Enjoys leading and mentoring engineers to think about systems, their life cycles, edge cases, and failure modes
- Enjoys fostering collaboration among engineers with different focuses such as frontend, mobile, firmware, vision, and ML
- Experience in writing high-quality, performant, and maintainable code in a modern programming language
- Production experience working with Javascript and/or client-side code
- Experience working on large-scale enterprise software applications
- Demonstrated ability to ship production-quality software in a dynamic environment
- Expert-level knowledge of at-scale stream-processing decision engines
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment with a mix of in-office and remote work, as required by the role
- Legal right to work at the company and in the specified work location, if applicable
