Job Description
This role involves designing and building scalable mapping, routing, and navigation infrastructure for Samsara's IoT platform, leading the development of both frontend and backend services, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions for physical operations industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build maps infrastructure, editor, and pipelines in collaboration with product teams
- Own the development of scalable frontend and backend services for fleet management
- Ensure technical excellence and balance between rapid development and long-term stability
- Simplify solutions to serve a diverse customer base effectively
- Communicate technical work to engineering and product teams for feedback and alignment
- Lead and develop an inclusive, high-performing engineering team
- Mentor junior engineers and support their growth
- Take end-to-end ownership of product features, including design, development, and deployment
- Shape and improve mapping, routing, or navigation products
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 8 years of experience as a software engineer
- Full-stack or backend development experience with React, Typescript, and Golang
- Strong programming coding fundamentals with ability to leverage AI tools during development
- Track record of leading design, development, deployment, and maintenance of distributed, highly scalable software systems
- Experience mentoring and supporting engineers and role modeling excellent engineering practices within a technical lead capacity
- Experience taking end-to-end ownership of product, feature designs, development, and delivery of large-scale and long-running projects
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage technical discussions
- Minimum requirements for the role include the ability to design and build maps infrastructure, editor, and pipelines in collaboration with product teams
- Experience in shaping and improving mapping, routing, or navigation products (preferred but not mandatory)
- Willingness to engage directly with customers when needed
