The Head of Atmospheric Modeling will lead the development and implementation of advanced weather prediction models using NWP and AI technologies in a cloud-native environment to support real-time data assimilation and predictive decision-making for climate modification projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of NWP and AI weather modeling in a cloud-native environment.
Bridge theoretical validation with operational deployment for real-time data assimilation.
Build and serve as the lead architect and hands-on builder of atmospheric modeling systems.
Enable predictive decision-making for operational weather modification deployments.
Integrate real-time monitoring and deployment hardware data into weather models.
Requirements
Deep experience in numerical weather prediction (NWP) and or next-generation AI weather modeling emulators, with a background that could include roles at NCAR, NOAA, DOE, a national lab, a leading research university, or an AI weather startup company.
Ability to function as both a lead architect and a hands-on builder in atmospheric modeling.
Experience implementing state of the art NWP and AI weather modeling into a cloud-native environment.
Proficiency in real-time data assimilation from monitoring and deployment hardware to enable predictive decision-making for operational deployments.
Strong understanding of theoretical validation and operational reality in weather modeling.
Willingness to work upwards of 50-60 hours per week, with flexibility for sometimes more hours, including frequent travel and regular weekend work.
Ability to thrive in an environment where priorities shift, roadmaps evolve, and work products change frequently.
